What the site retrieves

When you sign in and request personalized recommendations, Steam Oracle retrieves the Steam account identifier and available profile summary, owned games and playtime, recently played games, wishlist, and achievement information exposed by Steam for your signed-in account. Personal recommendations, recommendation influence settings, and saved lists are accessible only to that account. Steam sign-in happens on Steam; Steam Oracle never receives or stores your Steam password.

What the site stores

The site stores account-scoped Steam API caches, a derived recommendation profile, recommendation scores, saved recommendation layouts and results, and short-lived scan job state. Your influence changes, Play next list, sensitive-video autoplay preference, dismissed informational messages, and the game IDs of recommendations shown to you are stored privately with your account so they are available when you sign in on another device. Other custom lists, guest message dismissals, and guest viewing history remain in the browser where you use them. Pending viewing-history and message-dismissal updates are briefly stored in account-scoped browser storage until saved or you sign out. Scan tokens remain accessible only to the signed-in account that requested them. The site also stores shared game catalog information that is not tied to one account. Operational logs may contain a Steam account identifier when diagnosing a failed request.

Why it is used

To diagnose reliability and speed, the site also keeps bounded local diagnostic logs of request timing, response status, cache behavior, browser performance measurements, and JavaScript error locations. These diagnostic records do not include cookies, account identifiers, IP addresses, request contents, or error messages. They are stored on the application host, with older records replaced as the four-file, 20 MiB log limit is reached.

This data is used only to generate, save, restore, filter, and improve the recommendations you request, and to keep the service reliable. It is not sold or used for unsolicited marketing.

Retention and deletion

A login cookie keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. Signing out ends that device's session. Deleting your stored account data ends your sessions on every device.

Transient scan jobs normally expire after one hour. Steam API caches refresh on schedules ranging from minutes to days. A saved profile remains until it is replaced or you delete it. You can remove individual Play next entries, reset an influence change to Automatic, or turn off sensitive-preview autoplay at any time. While signed in, use Delete my stored data in the site footer to remove your saved profile, influence changes, Play next list, preview preference, dismissed-message preferences, recommendation viewing history, account-scoped API caches, completed job records, and scan contexts. Shared game catalog data is not account-specific and is not removed.

Storage location and service providers

Account data is stored in United States. Hosting, DNS, security, monitoring, and backup providers may process limited data as needed to operate the site. Backups age out according to the operator's backup-retention schedule.

Steam and availability

Steam data is provided as-is and may be incomplete, delayed, changed, or unavailable. Steam Oracle is an independent application and is not endorsed by or affiliated with Valve or Steam.
